1 Elections on Mon Jan 09, 2017 4:34 pm

As a general informative for those not keeping as up to date as the others (including the 8 of you I didn't hear from regarding positions), thanks to the Constitution you voted in, the next step that will be happening is the elections of Governors of each Region and Senators for the... Senate.

Once those are established, we'll move on to the next step.

Anyone wishing to, y'know, play at politics regarding lobbying or campaigning for being elected as either Governor or Senator, you may now start doing so (and are encouraged to do so).

As an aside, public opinion is no longer at 100% approval rating.

My Fellow Echaini,

Today we enter a new stage in our nation’s proud history; together, we have put forth a new vision of what it means to be Echaini. From now to eternity, each individual Echaini will never have to wonder whether or not his voice is being heard; from now to eternity, each individual voice will be amplified and heard more so than at any other time in history; from now to eternity, the government will work reflect the needs, wants, and desires of the Echaini people, for we have created a government with, by, and for the people. Each Echaini citizen has a single voice, a single vote, and a single destiny; but, when we vocalize in harmony, when we vote in free and fair elections, and when we do everything we can to fulfill our nation’s Destiny, nothing is impossible.

In the wake of our emancipation from the oppressive Japanese forces, and following the death of our dear Monarch, multiple factions rose up to advance their vision of the ideal government; and, through deliberation, through cooperation, and through communication of the utmost transparency, the Committee for the Democratic Constitution drafted a document that sought to enshrine the individual rights, values, and goals of each and every Echaini citizen; and, following the ratification period, you, my brothers and sisters, chose by majority rule to implement a governmental structure that you knew would put you, the individual, first. You, my brothers and sisters, determined that the individual is of the utmost important—that the free individual, above all else, is the capstone of a prosperous society. If one strips the individual of his inalienable rights, the government tumbles tumultuously to the ground, just as the arch does when the capstone is compromised.

The government, however, is only as good as its people are virtuous; and, although a vast majority of Echaini citizens are vehement patriots who value hard work, honesty, country, fraternity, liberty, and equality, there are some among us who wish to destroy the ideological foundation upon which this new government has been built. These citizens may believe that they are acting in response to what could be construed as good intentions, I’m sure; regrettably, however, they are misguiding in their approach. And let it be know that If these citizens are placed into the government—whether at the federal or local level—I promise they will propose specific laws and ordinances will be infringe upon your rights as individuals. They seek to expand government, to create equal outcome rather than equal opportunity; yet, the only way to do so is by force rather than by mutual agreement. Bearing this in mind, I, Bing Crosby, humbly announce my bid for our nation’s first Senatorial race.

For those of you who do not know me, allow me to provide you with my background and qualifications. I have travelled throughout the world and have attended some of the most prestigious universities in the world; and, I have made it my life’s mission to teach the tenants of Liberalism to those who need them most (in doing so, I travelled to Shanghai and taught revolutionaries the importance of freedom and liberty for the individual). After living several years abroad, I returned to Echain and entered the military as a low ranking officer in an attempt to thwart off the Japanese occupation. After the fall of the oppressors, I was consigned as a third-party counselor to the Framers of the Democratic Constitution. Due to the fact that I was, at every stage, present in the drafting of the Constitution, I know it forwards and backwards, and it is my solemn vow to protect and advance the Constitution in everything I do.

I have perhaps overstayed my welcome, so I will leave you, my brothers and sisters, with this: I have fought tooth and nail to advance an ideological framework that would enshrine you—yes, you—as the apotheosis of the free man in a free world. It is my hope that our society will enjoy freedoms of which most countries could not hope to dream. It is my hope that our society will teach the world what it means to wield both power and grace as well as what it means to use them in equal measure. I love this country as much as you do, and it is my sincere hope that you will appoint me as your Senator.

May the Republic thrive in perpetuity!

OOC: To make things clear, if you have any competition for a post you want, you should probably start lobbying for the position since it's an election. To make sure everyone's aware of some options, Axecack, Gollvieg, ProfessorTerrible, and Deutschkind all are not part of the government who you could attempt to bribe, coerce, woo, blackmail, or otherwise convince to support your campaign.

OOC:How do we start lobbying for decisions decided by the people? The only real positions that require lobbying would be the President, Ministers(decided by president) and judge.

Also, who decides on the director of the national bank and domestic intelligence?

The people are played by me, but its generally what you'd think it is. After all, if the people don't agree with you, elections are less likely to go your way. As for the Directors, those are appointed by Senate, which means lobbying the Senators (once they're in position) for appointment.

grifenknight wrote:OOC:How do we start lobbying for decisions decided by the people?  The only real positions that require lobbying would be the President, Ministers(decided by president) and judge.

Also, who decides on the director of the national bank and domestic intelligence?

As per the constitution:

1. "The minting of Espada is in the hand of the National Bank and its 6-man Board of Directors, from whom 3 are to be proposed and approved by simple majority vote in the Senate during the inaugural session following ordinary Elections"

2. "Office for Domestic Intelligence (ODI) is lead by an expert proposed and approved by simple majority vote in the Senate during the inaugural session following ordinary Elections."

OOC: I decided to write up an appeal for myself in the event that we have an influx of people who want to become senators, since, according to the constitution, "elections to the Senate are done by a National ballot and by way of partisan Candidate lists"

All of these are from Article Six.

I shall formally announce an end of my candidacy for the post of Governor of Echain, and my endorsement of Mr. Chaos Ryder for Governor of Versberg.

After a long conversation with esteemed Mr Ryder, I believe we are very much on the same page, as far as current priorities for Versberg go, and since during the Revolutionary fight he demonstrated substantial qualities, I believe him to be just as competent in implementing all that is necessary to promote those issues.

Hence I no longer run for any voted governmental office. The War was long, and we all long for rest. Now that the People of Echain are safe and free with a Democratic Government, I believe the need for my talents, has, for a time, passed; however, should my abilities be called upon once more, I will use them for the good of Echain.

Along with Mr Ryder, following candidates for various positions have my support and endorsement:
  • Mr Whiskers for Governor of Plainsdale
  • Mr Zero for Governor of Southport
  • Mrs Braigwen for Governor of Northport
  • Mr Lorinbas for Governor of City Central
  • Misters Crosby and grifenkinght for Senator

OOC: some concrete numbers were effectively changed OOC, since we don't really have enough players :'(

A man in his late 30's arrives in the center of town, with his usual ragged attire. It is clear that he is wearing a very worn sailor's outfit. A large crowd is gathered, ready to hear his speech. A local newspaper printed in the newspaper that morning that he was going to be giving some important announcements.

People o' Southport! It is official! The Const'ution o' August 29th 'as won the vote! I do be glad, as it was the const'ution that you all 'ad a part in making. Many o' your concerns were 'eard and implemented in this const'ution. But now we do be 'avin'  much to do.

To begin, I do wish to be discussin' what will be 'appenin' to the Southportian People's Militia. As many o' you 'ave 'eard, Zeiss 'as been assassinated, and the EIA fell apart. Firstly, I do be wishin' to be makin' it clear: I did no' 'ave any part in it.

One man is visibly shaking in what seems to be anger, and leaves the area

Despite of the terror 'e may 'ave been about to unleash, 'e still could 'ave been realed in. Considerin' 'ow quiet 'e got, I do be believin' 'e was cowed and wouldn't 'ave done anythin'. Murder should always be the last resort, no' an early solution. Secondly, many 'o joined did no' 'ave jobs due to the economic instability o' these transitional times. I do no' be wantin' to release them into the streets without jobs to feed their strugglin' families. Thus, I do wish to be requestin' that 'oever becomes representatives o' Southport turn these fine gentlemen into a police force. We do need to be creatin' one anyways, and we should be honorin' those 'o rose to defense o' Southport.

This leads me to me second topic. I do be formally announcin' my intentions to run for Gov'nor o' Southport. I would be pleased if you did be 'avin' me in such an honorable position. O' course, I do be believin' that Southportians generally want a couple o' thin's to be achieved, which I would be doin' my best to fufill on a national level.

1) Lower tariffs. I will be doin' everythin' in me power to ensure that these are low (or non existent). I will be votin' against any 'igh tariff legislation that gets to the council o' Gov'nors. This do be my 'ighest priority

2) Keepin' the regional power 'igh. This means more power for regions to decide more for themself. We Southportians do no' want much decided by others. Fortunately, the constu'tion is great for this, but there still do be room to do bad, and I do be promisin' to stop that. This includes (but not limited to) supportin' our good friends in Lurem to ensure they do be 'avin' a regional gov'ment they want (so long as they be 'avin' fair trade with us). TomRP is a friend o' mine, and I do be thinkin' 'e will do well by with the Lurem people if elected.

For a moment, he stops and looks around quickly, as if he thought he saw something strange. He shakes it off an continues.

These are currently the two I do be thinkin' most Southportians want. If anyone 'as anythin' else they want, please come talk to me! I will be doin' my best to be a representative o' the Southportian people!

As regional policies, this is what I do be believin' is in the best interest o' Southport:

First, o' course, as I already did be sayin', I do be wantin' to be convert the SPM into a police force, solvin' two problems at on-

Before he can finish his thought, there is a gunshot. Brief bewilderment is soon replaced by panic in the crowd. Most of them disperse, except some of the members of the SPM, who quickly identify the attacker and successfully disarm him, pin him, and tie him up using some leftover rope. The shot missed Mega by over a meter, but he still appears to be stunned.

Edit:
OOC: I didn't get really any chance to do any formal endorsements in this speech (because of obvious reasons). They will be coming later.

A speech starts in the town square of Central City.  Voices are calling for an assembly yet nobody know why.  That is when I started speaking:

My dear Echaini people, today is a day that will be remembered for centuries.  We have established a republic that will rise Echain from the ashes of its long dead monarchy and usher a new golden age that will grant us the power to challenge our previous foes.  This government will finally give the Echaini people the voice they deserve yet even with this great achievement, there are enemies within and around us.  The PA-PGL has already rejected the people's decision on the vote even though they believe they represent the people.  They advocate for a socialist Echain, but have they not heard of the tales emitting from the USSR?  Millions have died under the name of socialism and yet these fools still advocate it.  They advocate for a government that will imprison people for no reason, grant the elite rights over other men, turn its citizens into mindless drones and continue to state that they do this for the working class!  They claim that democracy and capitalism will pervert our great nation and create inequality and injustice yet they yearn for a government that will grant them the power to impoverish and oppress the people of this Glorious Nation.  Oh Echaini People!  Now is our time to take power into our own hands and stand strong.  We cannot allow these tyrants to claim our nation so early in its birth.  Have we not spilled enough blood to free our nation from the occupation? Not in the eyes of these socialists.  They crave for the power that their government will grant them and are willing to split the nation in order to overthrow the government that will grant the people a voice.

These men are the true antagonists in our story.  The occupation was just the first hurdle.  Our true opponent stands among us, waiting for their moment to strike and harm this beautiful nation.  If we expect any global prestige or power, we must first defeat the threats within us before we can look out.  That is why my first proposal to the Senate, if i am voted in or not, is to ban any and all forms of socialism in our country.  Do not give these fools an opportunity to destroy our nation.  We must snip the bud before it can grow out of control and we must destroy any insurrection that allows itself to form.

For now, my great people, do not be disheartened and rejoice in our victory.  Today is the time to celebrate, but tomorrow we must start our preparations for a new Echain. An Echain that will rule the seas! An Echain that will strike fear in the heart of our enemies!  An Echain that will be remembered for Millennia!

Adamemnon travels to Plainsdale in casual attire. He begins by going to a few farms a day: to help with the morning and evening chores (farm work in the day, entertainment and dinner at night). Adamemnon can make a mean vegetable stew with almost nothing courtesy of his penniless time in America during the Great Depression. And farming is nothing new to him for the same reason. Adamemnon listens to the people's concerns to see how best he can serve them in the government. He also looks to hire a perceptive and loyal aide while there.

After visiting a few farms in that town, gathering support, he travels to the town square to give a speech to the effect of the following for as many population centers as he can get to:

"My friends, I have had the pleasure of your hospitality and generosity for the past <insert time dependent on the turn length here>, and I could not be more humbled. You have even agreed to tend my farm and befriend my wife while I am away. You have my thanks.
My time as an Echainian Freedom Fighter nearly drowned me in death and fear. I was always overwhelmed by the generosity and optimism the Plainsdale fighters showed even in the darkest of times. You are a breath of fresh air in a time of tumult and loss.

Yet still I worry. Not for myself, but for you.

You provide for your families and all Echainians with bread on their plates; With food in the bellies of their children. But the growing government has yet to acknowledge you even exist. I’m sure they mean well, as all Echainians should, but most of them don’t consider the farmer, the distant provider, when they eat their fill. They need guidance from us.

Please let me be your voice in this new Echainian Government so you will not be abused by its power as the Japanese Occupiers abused you! Let us make sure they do not forget the most important people in Echain: You who sustain us all. I have already tried to protect your rights and future with my vote on the Constitution. Let me be your voice. Let us all be present in the new Echainian Government!

For Echain! For Echainians! For our families!"

Should anyone doubt his Echainian loyalty or intentions due to his Japanese father, Adamemnon will point to the dirt on his clothes (washed like the rest of theirs), grit on his hands, the fact he has farmed most of his life, and his time spent behind enemy lines in service of Echain to dissuade those voices. He will highlight that perhaps his blood is part Japanese and part Echainain, but his heart is fully Echainian.

*My candidacy speech at the Central City Town Square shortly after my previous speech*

Dear people of Echain, I have gathered here today for one main reason. Even though the socialists are a major threat to our independence, we will require democrats in positions of power if we have any desires of defeating them. Therefore, I would like to state my candidacy for President. I have lost everything for this country. My entire family. My friends. My wealth. Three of my toes(OOC: Razz). I have put my heart and soul into freeing this country and will not allow myself to let it fall into ruin and disrepair. I will uphold the principles laid out in the constitution and help our nation grow.

I will introduce bills, laws, and projects that will help the poor throughout Echain and strengthen our economy. I will advocate the growth of industry. Any dreams of power and glory among us will require the foundation of industry. An increase in industry and exports will allow our economy to grow and increase the wealth among our people. Industry will feed our war machine and allow us to defeat any that dare attempt to invade us again. Under my administration, turning Echain into an industrial powerhouse will be our #1 priority.

I will, also, give the position of Minister of Defense to a man who will modernize and revitalize our military. Modernizing Echain's navy will be the military’s #1 priority. We will establish our presence and claim the most valuable resources around us. The establishment of naval dockyards will be necessary in this process. These dockyards will help create jobs that are necessary in all of our maritime cities. No longer will we allow foreign powers to rule us or influence our nation. We will make our military strong enough to challenge the global powers. Echain will rule the seas!!!

I will make sure that the threat of socialism will not be allowed to grow in our nation. Those fools are more willing to put the nation in their pockets than to give it to the working class. I will propose laws that ban any shape and form of socialism in our country. We will not allow them to destroy the voices of the people. We will no longer allow ourselves to be ruled by tyrants! We will not allow these fools to turn us all into mindless drones while they lounge in their mansions committing atrocities and making themselves above the law. That is the beauty of a republic. No man is above the law! Not the president! Not the ministers! Not the senators! and not the governors!

That is all i have to say for now, my dear people. Please, spread the word. I will require the help of all the people in Central City and among the isles if i wish to become the President. Know that if you stand by me, and even if you don't, I will make sure to protect your cultures and rights.

Citizens of the Republic,

I address you today as one of your prospective servants, one who wishes to protect, above all, your inalienable rights as well as your private interests; and, in the spirit of advancing your ideals, I am here to express my public support of the Honorable Grifenknight as the first President of the Echaini Republic.

I know Mr. Grifenknight better than almost anyone in the Republic; I know him to be a good man, if not sometimes a brasher man than I. His fiery attitude, I believe, is what makes him a fantastic candidate for the presidency. Mr. Grifenknight has the spirit of a warrior, and he will fight to ensure that Echain’s influence spreads, that Echain’s wealth flourishes, and that Echain’s culture becomes the standard by which free men are evaluated.

There may be some of you who express fear and anxiety regarding Mr. Grifenknight’s attitude toward socialism, and I can certainly understand why some of you may be averse to his particular rhetorical brand; but, you can rest assured when I say that the honorable gentleman only speaks out against extremist Socialism, Communism, and Marxism, and he harbors no ill-will toward individuals who hold these beliefs. If you are a Socialist, please know that Mr. Grifenknight will not marginalize you—he will defend you; Mr. Grifenknight will not persecute you—he will protect your inalienable rights; and, most importantly, Mr. Grifenknight will not be your enemy—he is your ally and fellow countryman. He has spent his life defending this country and its people, and he will not stop until it is his time to cross The Great Divide.

In closing, I would like to remind you all of one critical element of my endorsement. As all of you are aware by now, several factions and political parties have arisen in the wake of the Japanese’s fall; however, only a few of you may be aware of the fact that, at this time, I have not committed to a single party. I, thus, represent those who either wish to remain neutral or are looking for a political party that more fully represents their individual interests. My neutrality, thus, separates me from partisan politics, and it is my hope that you, brothers and sisters, acknowledge that I am endorsing the candidate who possesses the best political views rather than the candidate who has the correct political affiliation.

Put simply, I fully, without reservation, endorse Grifenknight, and I hope that, come election day, he will be sworn in as the first President of the Republic of the Echaini Republic.

Chaos comes out on stage to a large crowd on the center of versberg. He is wearing semi-formal clothes cleaned and pressed in a military style.
People of Versberg! I see a lot of faces out there today, and it's a shame my ugly mug is the one on stage, Ha. Nevertheless our new government has officially been ratified and the first round of elections is coming up. I have expressed my interest to run for the office of Governor and I hope that you'll have me.
One of the most common issues that plague us today is the issue of self governance. Versberg has always been fiercely independent and self reliant. With me as governor I promise to help introduce legislation to make Versberg more prosperous and to help Versberg recover from the Japanese occupation.
One of the reasons the Japanese hit Versberg in particular so hard is our abundance of rubber, a material necessary for the Japanese war machine. With this resource Echain and Versberg can become prosperous. Of course the profits of this industry going to the people of Versberg instead of our former occupiers.
Also the marine training school is going to be based in Versberg, so I want the top trainers and officers there to be from here. We need to show them why when faced with the worst opposition the people of Versberg fought back and reached the capital at the same time as regions that had little comparative occupation.   I've seen most of you in action so I know you guys are the best.
Again like I've been doing, I have an open door policy so feel free to come in and speak your mind about whatever is on your mind. I'm so happy that Versberg can finally move on after years of bloodshed into an era of prosperity.
Thank you and have a great day.

*A man in his thirties gently walks up on the stage. He is wearing a worn pin-stripe suit and walks with a black cane. He clears his throat*

People of our new Republic: thank you for having me on today. I rarely make such public appearances but came out today just to see all of your bright, shining faces. Truly, the future of our nation.

I'll spare you the suspense, I am not running for President or any other political office, rather, I am running for something greater than any one of us: The Restoration of Echain! We have kicked out our oppressors and have established a new government. And now, it is time for us to rebuild.

But before we get to that, I'm sure that some of you might be wondering why it is I walk with a cane. Besides the fact that it looks incredibly dapper, I am also the unfortunate victim of a Japanese bombardment. And yet, I got off easy. There are many among us who lost limbs and family to the shellings of our oppressors. We've suffered buildings, blown to pieces. Farms, burnt to the ground. These have been hellish years. But none of us have suffered quite as much as our former great city of Aberisk.

Aberisk, the once cultural epicenter of our great nation has been reduced to a pile of rubble. Yet many of us still still remember what it once was. Many of us remember the great library. Many of us remember the universities which would prepare the next generation of our nation. And our memory can be once again made reality.

Tonight I ask you, the people, as well as our political leaders, to commit to the revitalization of Echain - starting with Aberisk. We can rebuild the great city out of the ashes of the old if we dedicate our resources not to fighting eachother and carving out our own personal territory, but instead to work together and rediscover what was once lost.

I and all of Axecack Enterprises will support the political candidates in this election who promise to make the Restoration of Aberisk a top priority as part of their campaign. I also urge any like-minded individuals to do the same. To anyone out there who might think they are small or insignificant, know that your vote can change the direction of our entire nation. If you truly agree with restoring ourselves, then I ask you to set the trend right now, and vote for this revitalization effort.

We are now all free of oppression, so we have no one to blame for our future but ourselves. It is now time to take responsibility for our fate and commit to building a better future for ourselves, our family, and all of Echain. Thank you.

21 Re: Elections on Tue Jan 10, 2017 2:19 am

Mr. Axecack,

It pleases me to see your support of Aberisk’s reconstruction. As you may know, I, too, was born and bred in Aberisk, and my hometown made me into the man I am today. When I was a young man, I first read Plato, Aristotle, John Locke, Thomas Hobbes, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, and Adam Smith within the halls of the Great Library; it was my second home and my intellectual playground, and a part of me died when the Japanese reduced the great halls to cinders. So it is with this in mind that I wish to extend to you a message of reassurance: the framers and I have discussed at great length the need to reconstruct Aberisk and its intellectual centers.

If you’ve read through the constitution thoroughly—a daunting task, considering its length and relative complexity—you will notice that there are but a few public entities that have been explicitly established—yes, Echain has a military, it has an intelligence agency, and it has a national bank; but, above all other public agencies, it will soon have a fully-funded elite university whose goal is to enrich the minds of Echain’s best and brightest students. We will rebuild the Library along with the elite university; in doing so, we will guarantee that the next generation of Echaini inventors, scholar, engineers, military technicians, scientists, lawyers, and, of course, doctors are able to attend the best university in the country—for free.

Having said all that, the university could use funding from outside the government, if not only to ensure that the university will attract some of the best professors in the world. I realize that there are many native scholars who are fit for the job—I, for one, attended both University of Sydney and the prestigious Sorbonne, and many of the other political candidates have attained education from similar institutions—but diversity of ideology is invaluable, and we should be looking abroad to find an outside perspective (I believe our university would benefit from hiring American and German engineering and science instructors, given the number of Nobel Prizes their countrymen have attained).

If I may be bold, allow me to offer a suggestion: the politicians, at this early stage in our republic, do not need and should not receive monetary support; instead, I urge you to only verbally endorse candidates you wish to stand behind (I realize that you may not be offering monetary support at this time, but I believe it is important enough for me to express this sentiment explicitly, regardless of your intentions). You posses an incredible wealth of political and economic clout, and your word is worth more than money for a young politician. So, if you must funnel money into a cause, please do so directly into the university system as well as the Aberiskian region on the whole. Of course, this is merely a humble suggestion, and you may do as you please—it is your freedom to exercise your political expression in any way I see fit. Please do know, however, that Aberisk’s interests are my interests, and that I wish to establish the University as soon as possible.

Thank you for your time.

Dear people of Echain,

These are strange times we find ourselves in, where you can be persecuted on your political beliefs alone. Were a simple term such as socialism is enough to start panic among a man. Where people assume all forms of a political ideology are the same, and that the people who run them are the same. Such things that only cause a lack of unity, and a lack of free-beliefs. If you have no freedom of politics, I then ask what is next, will we be scrutinized upon by what our religion is. Or perhaps even speaking can be cause for imprisonment.

I have accepted that the constitution I have brought forth didn't make it. And though I thank all the supporters for their votes, now is the time for unity, something a certain candidate seems to be opposed of. Sure some of his political allies may say it's only the extremists this candidate will prosecute, but that's not what he said. I quote, "I will propose laws that ban any shape and form of socialism in our country." Is that what we call equality now. Is that the man we want to put in charge. What's next maybe those who supported the monarchy, or perhaps the populists, or perhaps anything else. He seeks to segregate a population within our society. A part of OUR culture.

This candidate says no man is above the law, which is ironic considering he said he would use his presidential powers to ban all forms of socialism. He is superseding the law by persecuting the people. He isn't looking out for the people only his own petty grudge against an economic concept. I speak out against this. One cannot ban an idea, a political concept, then that makes you no different than what you assume you're banning.

To the people of Echain know that I speak for unity. This bickering of ideologies is fine, but the moment it goes overboard of banning ones freedom of politics that is where I draw the line. Know people of Echain I will look out for you in case such a day comes, know your voices won't be silenced in the Democratic society. Yes a democracy where all people get a say, where the culture and the beliefs of every single Echain person matters. I know some of you are scared for the future but just know with Unity Echain will prosper.

Thank you to everyone. This statement may seem abrupt but it had to be said. I care not who makes it to the presidency, only that, this person has moderation. I don't even hold a grudge against said candidate so far, I only cannot stand when the basic rights of a person are threatened. Again I do not wish to bash the person I'm sure he is a fine man and perhaps emotions played a large part in his speech.

I put this out now to hopefully talk with Mr. Grifenknight, so we may end this pointless debate, and establish what is most important for Echain unity.

A small man in a tweed jacket, leather patches on the elbows and armpits stained with sweat from days of hard riding from the capital approaches the small dais quickly erected in the centre of Plainsdale's boisterous market. A large set of papers clutched above his head in obvious triumph.
Workers of Plainsdale! My ride from the capital should have tired me, but the miles of rolling plains now under the direct control of the men and women working them has only served to bolster my spirits! No longer shall the landlord's tithes take food from our babes mouths! We are free of their yoke and it was due to your bravery, the bravery to say no more to tyrants! To say no more to those who think a landlord's right to rent should force another man to starvation, no more! I hold here in my hand the new constitution. A constitution with hard fought for concessions for the worker and common man. The most important of these is the establishment of local conferences, in which each and everyone one of us will have a direct say in the functioning of the regional government. From these delegates to a regional assembly will be chosen and from there a governor appointed. No more will an aristocrat born and raised on his father's boat or in the glistening halls of the capital be making decisions with no knowledge and no right know-how of how to work the land. I was born here; my da' was a farmer, and while I'm not the best with a hoe or pitchfork what I do know is fighting. Those who know me know of what I speak. Not just the fight against the Japanese on our own lands, but the global, international fight against the fascist and capitalism. When I look at this crowd of men and women assembled before me, what I see are a flock of sheep! While another crowd may take that as an insult, I'm sure you will all understand my meaning. Even without weapons of your own you are fiercely loyal, you will stick by one another in the face of any threat. And while a fox may take one or two of us down, the flock will be preserved...Well I say no more, Mr. Fox! This band of sheep will have weapons of their own! Vote for me for governor of Plainsdale and not only will I vow to protect the collectivisation process you have already started, I will extend it and help you protect yourselves against the foxes lurking in the capital! Thank you.
Striding over on his short legs to the town's euphemistically named Grain Distribution Centre the building in which tithes were historically collected, a short kick swings open the large barn doors. A call for chairs is passed through the crowd and soon the first local conference of Plainsdale is held.

If you read both of my speeches, the real reason im doing this is because there are dangerous rumours of rebellion and insurrection flying around, especially in Lurem. My statement on banning socialism is more political than it is literal, but necessary since a majority of your members have already shown great willingness to overthrow this new government. The PA-PGL has already rejected the vote on the constitution and many of your members have stated that they will push their ideology forward even if force is required. That is why I am scared. That is why I am frightened by your ideology. That so many of your members are willing to destroy our nation AGAIN in the name of "socialism."

Clearly my proposal was radical and I did not mean it fully, but I needed to get my views across. One of my major reasons for stating this is that I do not want to give the radical socialist the ability to attempt to overthrow our newborn government and then be able to to join it as well, when they are defeated. Even if I did want to ban socialism, I would require the majority support of the senate and the Council of Governors. I am sorry to have brought up such matters, but you will see my true character once I start speaking to the governors since the people aren't the ones voting for me, the governors are. I hope you do not disagree with my other points though.
