With the other forces clear of the cannon, the engineers fire the now impromptu shotgun in the general direction from which the undead stream. Those not operating the cannon attempt to reinforce the fortifications.

The men wait behind house lanore, ready to reinforce should any holes show up and wait for the effect of the steam cannon.

Thrand and his forces will prep for the next wave of the undead, the sound of improvised buckshot going off being heard in the background.

View user profile
The buckshot smashes through the lines of undead with casual ease, toppling the largest of the skeletons and the most heavily armored alike. The fire has destroyed some of the undead, but many more lie simply in pieces. Difficult to move of not impossible, but not destroyed yet.

But then, the undead suddenly stop. Collectively, they turn back to where they had come from and, as quickly as they had come, those who could shambled back to the door where they had come from.

Thrand gazes on in puzzlement as the undead simply decide to stop attacking and leave, frowning from within the confines of his helmet at their retreating forms.  "I don't like this," he mutters, stepping on the still writhing torso of one dismembered skeleton and crushing the crystal beneath his boot.  "Why would they just stop?"

"They were called away. Either we pursue into a possible trap, or they escape. Either way I'm willing to bed you ten gold that's the way we'll have to go." Erik replies.

"So either they suddenly figured out that blindly charging down a corridor at a cannon was a bad idea," Thrand begins dryly, "or their puppet master didn't want to waste any more of his or her toys."  He takes a moment to crack his neck, first left, then right.  "Either way, you're probably right.  At least we know how to dispose of them now."  He kicks the dust from the crystal he just crushed for emphasis.  "I volunteer to lead my troops in first.  A chance for us to pull our weight as it were."

The Engineers sit behind the fortifications, no one particularly keen at going after the undead.

Azbel-"Well, that's all well and good, while you head on, we'll maintain this as a place to fall back to should the worst happen..."

"That would be appreciated, we'll follow up behind you." Logan says Thrand, offering to help the force that was quite helpful in the earlier defense against the undead skeletons.

Two months have passed by since the golem/skelemans fight.  Things have calmed down for now and no movement has come from the dark-and-scary corridor.

Laventino sends a contingent of soldiers down into the dungeon.  100 polearm-men with 10 flamethrowers, 100 repeater crossbowmen with 10 centipedes, 200 engineers with 20 steam cannons and 5 bouloni fortias.  All of them are armed with swords; wear maille, padded gambeson, coat of plates, black tabards, and red surcoats.

Their leaders are a military leader, engineer, scribe, and mage.

Anyone who can sense magic feels an aura on each of them.

The corridor is empty, as well as the room beyond. The door leads to another hallway as it appears to continue throughout what is now floor 9.

Strangely enough, this floor is unusually absent of anything, including the undead that had attacked the expedition earlier.

Floor 10 is a different case, with 8 Wealth found behind a broken-down stone door. The damage appears to have been natural and very recent, though old dig marks are present on the now-destroyed doors. An additional 6 raw mana crystals are found in other various hidden alcoves and locked rooms once they were broken down.

Engineers present on Floor 10 find a stone that is loose yet will not allow itself to be removed.

Finally, the expedition finds another major obstacle on the floor. A golem made of steel, twice tghe height of a human man with four arms protruding from its body. Two arms carry massive tower shields as tall and wide as itself whilst the other two arms carry cleavers as massive as Lord Thrand himself. It attacks everything and anything that tries to approach it, and the door it guards.

Worse yet, this steel golem appears to be capable of basic intelligent thought, as well as capable of basic speech. All negotiations with it however have failed spectacularly.

Hearing the reports of the steel golem, Erik wasn't particularly amused. "Well then.. This would be difficult. They refuse to speak?" He taps his chin and leads his men down to the room closest to the golem without being in the same room. He was going to observe negotiations.

The golem stands idly without registering Ser Erik being present in the nearby room.

Kreathean soldiers enter the dungeon, heading down to the base camp and from there to the tenth floor.

Knight-Captain Sir Edon leads his force onto the floor, holding torches high. 100 knights of the Circle of Honor, 200 men of the Guard, 80 archers of the Far-Eye Legion and 20 scouts march with him, and they set up a temporary camp and wait for the Aurelion troop rotation to arrive.

The scribe investigates all the opened passages so far. When he gets to the latest obstacle, he halts suddenly and stares up at it. "What is that thing?"

View user profile
A Nestavian engineer quickly pulls the Laventine scribe back into the hallway, out of the room. "That's a damn steel golem, you dolt! It'll attack anything and anyone in that room! We still haven't figured out how to deal with it. Arrows do nothing, and you'd be a damn fool to use a sword against that thing! We'd try magic but our court mage was called away and the others are taking their sweet time."

View user profile
The scribe prevents the soldiers from touching the engineer. He says something really loud to the other lavens. "What in the chasm is a golem?"

View user profile
The Nestavian engineers look at one another as one picks up a crossbow, crouching just inside the room and firing a bolt off at the golem's head. It bounces off easily as the golem turns to the engineer that fired the arrow.

"Intruder. Destroy," the steel creature bellows before stomping forward, each step causing the floor to tremble as it moves forward, its tower shields raised in front and its two cleavers raised to strike. A formidable sight to those who have never seen it before.

The Nestavian engineer quickly backs out of the room and the steel golem comes to a halt, before turning around and silently returning to its original position.

A young man with a crystal tipped spear steps to just almost in the room. He takes out a blue mana crystal and touches it to the tip of the spear. After the pulsating light show is done, he steps into the room and shoots a bolt of lightning at the golem.

View user profile
The lightning strikes the golem, the location he hit briefly glowing red by the heat before fading back to its steel color. The golem turns, as it did before, as it repeats the same words.

"Intruder. Destroy."

View user profile
The mage quickly backs out of the room. He and the other laventine troops head back to the 9th floor to determine a strategy to take it down. The scribe is left behind for observation.

Erik will throw a large rock at the golem from the other room, testing a theory

The golem turns around and stares at Heinrich but otherwise does nothing.

View user profile
Ser Thomas frowns at the sight, Thrand having returned to his duties in Geirmund Hold, clearly thinking as he gauges the golem's reaction.  "So it only reacts to something if it enters the room, even when struck."

Rengar nods silently.

"I don't suppose that cannon is still available?"

View user profile
The scribe answers. "My people brought 20 cannons with us. That should be enough to dent it." He then departs.
