1 The Battle of Ely... and three others on Thu Jan 26, 2017 8:31 pm

News is leaking out to every corner of Echain that unknown assailants launched a four prong assault on Lurem, Eastport, Northport, and Southport. These attackers managed to do some significant damage before the venerable mercenary company, Darpon, who was already in the area attempting to sell their services to the Republic, swept in and offered to assist. In Eastport and Northport these were welcomed, and they repelled the attackers with relative ease.

Lurem was not so lucky. Marshall War Wager personally led the battle at Ely, where a Regiment of Luremites was also present, and the enemy had a full four Destroyers fielded along with well positioned artillery. The battle was waged for over four hours, but in the end victory was had, in part thanks again to a nearby Darpon unit. The Echaini under Marshall War Wager lost one Regiment, and another broke ranks and deserted. Three of the four Gunboats were sank, as was the ERS Constitution, however the Marshall did manage to capture an enemy Destroyer in the process.

Already word is being spread across the nation that the Republic cannot defend itself and that the Darpon group should be allowed to function as the regular military of the Nation in their stead. This opinion is being met with significant popular support in Central, Northport, and Eastport, and is being violently rejected by the Vassal Commanders in Lurem.

The 3 militia units from Plainsdale are spotted marching from their fortifications along the border onto City Central in an orderly fashion.

Field Marshall WarWager will be given the keys to the city in recognition of his incredible bravery in the face of such overwhelming odds. Due to the lack of an Intelligence service in our nation with Director Infernals disappearance, I have already begun efforts myself to identify our attackers. I call for a moment of silence to mourn the deaths of so many brothers and sister of our nation.

OOC: There isn't much about the Southport attack. And didn't we hire mercenaries? I put it up to the assembly with a strong suggestion that we take it due to the instability of Echain.

OOC: The GM didn't want to presume what happened with Southport without your input.

OCC: Did the Eastport militia work along side the mercenary band? Or did the mercenary band do all the heavy lifting?

The Assembly of Southport voted to try to fight it out themselves, but the battle was going badly until the mercenaries stepped in without being hired and ended up saving hundreds of lives. This has changed opinions as one might imagine.

The Eastport militia did fight bravely alongside the mercenaries, but were ultimately an auxiliary to the main battle.
