1 Chess, Sci-Fi Ground Combat Version on Sat Jun 20, 2015 11:54 am

After watching this video about strategy and tactics, it got me thinking about how the different franchises compare to one another.  If you don't want to watch the video, the end of it is basically just translating ground equipment into chess pieces.

The translations are:
King-Infantry
Queen-Air Cover
King/Bishop-APC
Queen/Bishop-Tank
Knights-Artillery
King/Rook- Weapons of Mass Destruction (chemical, biological, nuclear)
Queen/Rook-Guided Missiles
Pawn1/2-Tripod mounted guns
Pawn3-Heavy Infantry Support (mortars, rpgs, shoulder-fired rocket launchers)
Pawn4-Personal shields/body armor
Pawn5-NBC protection
Pawn6-Flamethrowers
Pawn7-Full range of small arms
Pawn8-Explosives (hand grenades, mines, demolition charges)

So, I will use the UFP from Star Trek TNG as an example.  The only three pieces they have is the King, Pawn3, and Pawn7.

With this in mind, what does your favorite faction of a particular setting look like on the chess board?  You can only use equipment that have been used in combat (not merely mentioned or displayed).

Seeing as how I'm on a Stargate kick, I'll see what the Goa'uld System Lords have on the board. (Keep in mind, I only just got through Season 5. If there is anything I'm leaving out in the later seasons, let me know.)

The pieces they'll have available is:
King, Queen, Knights, Pawn1/2, Pawn4, and Pawn8.

Shouldn't it be King, then 80 Pawns for Goa'uld?

Before I forget again, I'll just knock out all the Mass Effect factions (minus the Reapers/Collectors) in one go.

Their pieces are:
King, Queen, King/Bishop, Knights, and all the Pawns.

EDIT: Added in Knights. I had forgotten about all the times AA guns appear in ME3, and while they are the least useful type of artillery (fixed, direct fire) it is still artillery.
