1 StarCraft 2: Cut Story Elements on Tue Aug 11, 2015 4:50 pm

While doing some digging, I found multiple instances of story content that was cut during the production of Wings of Liberty and Heart of the Swarm.

While I don't agree with some of the original ideas that were cut, I have to admit that if these concepts had been left in, the quality of the series would have sharply improved.

It makes what we ended up getting even worse by comparison, due to the fact that this is clearly better written and what we could and should have gotten.

Interesting.

But unsurprising. It's pretty clear the Blizzard's decision to split SC2 into three parts was done solely to get people to buy the same game over and over again. That's why the stories of WoL and WotS are cyclical--they're just treading water, wasting time until the "real" sequel to SC2.

I was seriously PO'd when I first played the games, but now I'm pretty much resigned to the fact that SC2 will consist of two inconsequential campaigns, and one WoW fanfic campaign.

I guess even Blizzard isn't immune to greed, I'm just shocked it took me so long to figure that out.

Well you know, the more you cut out, the more potential future installments have, especially if they're wanting to go for more backstory further on. Especially if what got cut is exposition, which seems like a lot of it is.

So are you saying that Blizzard cutting out content to sell later on is justifiable?
